How Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) understands Anxiety Disorders
In TCM, anxiety disorders are often attributed to the Heart and Kidney. Impaired communication between Heart and Kidney, Heart Qi deficiency, or Kidney Yin deficiency destabilise the spirit (Shen) and give rise to anxiety.
Treatment Principles
Acupuncture
Points such as HT 7, PC 6, KD 1, and GB 34 harmonise the Heart and Kidney, calm the spirit, and regulate the autonomic nervous system.
Tuina Treatment
Relaxing massage of the back and solar plexus region to regulate the autonomic nervous system.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Formulas such as Gan Mai Da Zao Tang nourish Heart Yin and calm the overstimulated spirit.
Lifestyle Adjustments
Regular relaxation exercises (Qi Gong, Tai Chi), breathing techniques, movement in nature, reduction of caffeine.
