How Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) understands Depression
Depression in TCM often corresponds to Liver Qi stagnation spreading to the Heart. The Spirit (Shen) loses its anchor; patterns such as Heart Blood deficiency, phlegm obstructing the Heart, or Kidney Yang deficiency may also be present.
Treatment Principles
Acupuncture
Points such as LR 3, HT 7, PC 6, GV 20, and SP 6 move Liver Qi, nourish Heart Blood, and anchor the Shen.
Tuina Treatment
Relaxing full-body massage with a focus on the back and solar plexus to promote Qi movement and emotional release.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Tried-and-tested formulas such as Xiao Yao San (Free and Easy Wanderer) move Liver Qi and tonify the Spleen and Blood.
Lifestyle Adjustments
Regular physical activity, social contact, structured daily routine, sunlight, relaxation techniques.
