Traditional Chinese Medicine Basel
Holistic healing with over 3000 years of experience — individual and natural in Basel
Book AppointmentTraditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of the oldest and most comprehensive medical systems in the world. For over 3000 years it has been practised in China and has established itself as an independent healing art that views the human being as a whole — body, mind and soul in their inseparable unity.
At Anfang TCM Praxis Basel, we combine this ancient wisdom with modern medical knowledge. Our experienced therapists accompany you on your path to greater health, wellbeing and inner balance.
How does Traditional Chinese Medicine Basel work?
TCM is based on the concept of Qi — the life energy that flows through the body. When this flow is disturbed or blocked, illness and discomfort arise. The goal of TCM is to restore the balance between Yin and Yang and harmonise the Qi flow in the meridians.
TCM has five main pillars of treatment, individually combined depending on the condition:
- Acupuncture: Targeted stimulation of acupuncture points on the meridians
- Chinese Phytotherapy: Individual herbal compositions from Chinese herbal medicine
- Tuina Massage: Therapeutic massage along meridians and acupuncture points
- Cupping Therapy: Improving circulation and releasing blockages
- Diet counselling and Qi Gong: Lifestyle adjustments according to TCM principles
Which complaints can TCM help with?
- Chronic and acute pain (back, shoulder, knee, headaches, migraines)
- Sleep disorders and fatigue syndrome
- Stress, anxiety and depressive moods
- Women's health (menstrual pain, menopause, fertility)
- Allergies and hay fever
- Digestive complaints and irritable bowel
- Skin conditions (eczema, psoriasis)
- Long Covid and post-viral fatigue
Treatment process at Anfang TCM Praxis Basel
1. Initial consultation and TCM diagnosis
At the first appointment we take ample time to discuss your complaints, medical history and lifestyle. Using tongue and pulse diagnosis we create a comprehensive TCM picture of your health situation.
2. Individual treatment
Based on the diagnosis we select the appropriate TCM methods — acupuncture, cupping, Tuina or phytotherapy — and adapt the treatment at every appointment to your current condition.
3. Treatment course
We generally recommend a series of 6-12 treatments depending on the complaint. Acute conditions often respond faster; chronic conditions require more time and patience.
Traditional Chinese Medicine Risks and Side Effects
TCM treatments are very well tolerated when applied by qualified practitioners. Possible mild side effects depending on the method:
- Acupuncture: brief needle sensation, rarely small bruises
- Cupping: temporary skin redness and bruising (desired effect)
- Tuina: mild muscle sensitivity after treatment
- Phytotherapy: rarely stomach sensitivity in very sensitive patients
